I'm Coach Larry Porter—but more than a coach, I’m a husband, a father of 8, a veteran, and a man who’s still learning how to lead better every day.
I spent years in the U.S. Navy, serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, fighting for something bigger than myself. And now, I fight a different kind of battle—on the field, in the classroom, and in the hearts of those who’ve been told they’re not enough.
With over 25 years of coaching football, mentoring youth, and speaking life into leaders, I’ve seen one truth hold steady: discipline will take you places talent can’t. Whether I'm coaching a 4th quarter comeback or talking one-on-one with a young adult who's about to quit—I show up with heart, honesty, and heat.
Compete or Cry isn’t just a book—it’s the blueprint I wish I had earlier in life. It’s for the ones who want to grow but don’t know where to start. It’s for the ones who lead in silence. It’s for the ones who are ready to stop folding and start fighting.
I’m not perfect. I’ve made mistakes. But every day, I get up and try to be better—for my wife, my kids, my players, and the man I still want to become.
